Quit claim deed fraud on the rise in New England

Quit claim deed fraud, also known as home title fraud or home title theft, has been increasing in New England according to an April report from the Boston Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The scam can take on many forms but often begins with forged documents. These documents are used by scammers to show that a property's ownership has changed hands. Once the scammers are shown to be the owner of the property on paper, the property can be sold or rented and the real owners won't even realize what has happened.
